Abstract

Introduction: In the ongoing thematic project "DIAMATER" (2016/011743-5), two associated pathologies, pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence (PS-UI) and Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) are the long-term predictors of UI. The conceptual model generated by our group shows that the integration between GDM and PS-UI gives rise to a new clinical entity, whose prevalence and characterization is the challenge of this project. The prevalence and incidence of PS-UI is widely researched in the literature. There is great variability in publications, depending on the local setting, the case definitions applied, the population recruited (trimester of pregnancy and parity) and the study methodology. However, no studies were found that included GDM in the identification of this incidence and prevalence. Objectives: To verify the prevalence, characterize the PS-UI of pregnant women with GDM in relation to pregnant women without GDM and to identify whether or not the association GDM and PS-UI is a new clinical entity. Methodology: This is a study whose existing data will be extracted from the Case Report Form (CRF) of Diamater, which is allocated in the computer system of the Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu - Unesp. Personal, obstetric data and PS-UI characteristics, already included in the CRF, of approximately 2,000 participants of the Thematic included in the period between March 2017 and December 2022 will be imported. The groups to identify the incidence of PS-UI will be formed from the diagnosis or not of the GDM proposed by the ADA. To identify the incidence. Expected results: There is a gap in the current knowledge if the UEG in pregnant women with GDM is different from the PS-UI in normoglycemic pregnant women and its real prevalence. The number of pregnant women included in the Thematic Project under development (2016/01743-5) and the data stored in the Case Report Form will allow this analysis and will also answer a question about the conceptual model developed in the Thematic Project: new clinical entity between GDM and PS-UI.
