Abstract

In the first half of the 19th century, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, dozens of periodicals that proposed to popularize scientific knowledge and its techniques were published with a common objective: a civilizing project for the newborn nation. Among these periodicals, in 1833, a newspaper was launched from this tradition that stood out in its time for its longevity and specificity in the search for the improvement of national production techniques, O Auxiliador da Industria Nacional. Created as an organ of dissemination of the Sociedade Auxiliadora da Indústria Nacional, the newspaper existed for sixty years, being extinguished only in 1896. . Through the analysis of institutional documents, the compilation and classification of the journal's content, the examination of the relevant official bibliography and the historiography of international and national scientific journalism, this project aims to analyze the trajectory of the journal throughout its sixty years. of publication, the thematic evolution of the texts published in its pages, the individual participation in the changes suffered by the periodical and participation of the Imperial Government in its financing and distribution.
