Abstract

Many researches have been carried out with the objective of enabling the use of cryoprotectants that could provide a lower osmotic shock during cryopreservation of equine spermatozoa. There is a large amount of studies focused on testing different types of cryoprotectants in various concentrations and associations, which are used in equine semen freezing diluents. However, the results of freezability and fertility throughout the years have barely improved. This fact has led to the development of new researches, as it has been observed the fragility of this biotechnique for the equine species when compared to other domestic species. Therefore, the objective of this experiment is to evaluate the action of different cryoprotectants and their associations on the quality of kinematics, which will be analyzed by CASA (computerized sperm motility analysis) as well as to study plasma membrane evaluations using the Epifluorescence Microscopy method. Thus, it is expected it could be found a cryoprotectant or an association that presents better results in motility and cytoplasmic membrane integrity, in order to decrease the toxic effect of cryoprotectants on sperm cells.
