Abstract

The present research internship abroad (BEPE FAPESP) project aims to realize and learn state-of-the art experimental methods under extreme conditions, i.e., very low temperatures (down to 0.5 K), uniaxial strain, and high magnetic fields. The aim is to investigate the fate of electron localization and its role in the formation of novel correlated electronic and magnetic states. The Intern will access a state-of-the-art infrastructure in a high-performance laboratory at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and learn new experimental platforms under the supervision of two scientist staff Dr. Johanna Palmstrom and Dr. Sean M. Thomas, focusing on the investigation of the underlying physics involving electronic correlations in FeGa3 (a material that is a matter of investigation in the Ph.D.thesis of the Intern Cauê Kaufmann Ribeiro - see FAPESP process 2019/24522-2). Besides that, other materials are also proposed by the supervisors at LANL, which drives the Intern to test the new experimental methods as well as to be involved in other hot topics that are of current interest in the LANL lab. Last but not least, this BEPE FAPESP internship will help the Intern to gain scientist leadership as well as experience in working with high-quality and competent scientific staff in LANL, bringing to São Paulo state all scientific know-how in the internship.
