Abstract

The aim of the present prospective study is to evaluate whether different dimensions of decompressive threads in the cervical region of implants can result in optimization of the osseointegration process. Twelve female New Zealand White rabbits weighing from 3.5 to 4.0 kg will be used. Forty-eight (48) implants measuring 3.75 mm in diameter by 10 mm in height (Leader Medica®) with three different models of cervical cortical lamina designs will be installed in the metaphysis or diaphysis of the rabbit's tibias, with two implants from each side, randomly. The design of the implant blades of the control group will be neutral (0 mm), while the implants of Test Group 1 will present blades with a radial difference of +0.05mm, and the implants of Test Group 2, blades with +0.2mm. The implant insertion torques will be measured when reaching the final bone level positioning. Ten weeks after the surgeries, the animals will be euthanized and the removed specimens will be sent for inclusion in resin and preparation of histological slides. Qualitative histological analyzes of bone and connective tissue and quantitative histomorphometric analyzes of bone-implant contact (BIC) and neoformed bone between threads (BABT) will be performed in the cervical, middle and apical regions of the implants, in the two different areas of insertion. Data will be submitted to ANOVA statistical analysis.
