Abstract

This study is based on gender inequality in access to science and seeks to encourage female interest and engagement in the area by holding workshops about creation and confection of a personalized piece of clothing. It is intended to work on concepts of math, geometry, chemistry and ecology, approaching flat modeling, dyeing, printing, disposal and decomposition of textile materials. Also, the aim is to raise awareness about the impacts of the fashion industry to the environment, encouraging conscious consumption and creation from discarded materials, such as fabric scraps. Workshops will be held with female adolescents from the public school system located in the east of the city of São Paulo, through the research group entitled "Lab das Minas". In the end, it will be analyzed if the female participation in the workshops generated greater involvement and interest in science and if there was a gain in the student's previous knowledge.
