Abstract

This research aims to analyze the transformation of motives of the study activity in the transition from the 5th grade of the Early Years to the 6th grade of the Final Years of Elementary School. As a theoretical reference we have the foundations of Cultural-Historical Psychology. The Brazilian academic productions have characterized the transition from the Beginning to the End Years of the Elementary School as a moment of rupture, which presents particular changes in the objective conditions of the school dynamics, and, above all, in the subjective conditions of the students in relation to their study activity. This qualitative research is an ethnographic investigation to be carried out in a public school in the countryside of São Paulo state, with a group of students and teachers of the 5th grade of the Elementary School, and later, with students and teachers of the 6th grade of the Final School. As methodological procedures we intend to observe the class, conduct interviews or rounds of conversation with students and individual interviews with teachers in the final months of the 5th grade school year and, later, in the initial months of the 6th grade school year. As analytical procedures, descriptive and then analytical categories will be organized with the purpose of understanding the movement of the transition process from the 5th grade to the 6th grade, focusing on how the motives in the study activity of these subjects in the transition from the Beginning to the End Years of Elementary School are configured.
