Abstract

Distortions in responses are common in self-report measures; among which, faking, which is understood as the modification of responses to a self-report instrument, in order to demonstrate a more favorable impression. Some types of faking that exist are social desirability and overclaiming. The results of surveys with overclaiming are still considered imprecise and need further investigation to know which constructs are related to overclaiming. Therefore, this research project seeks to identify the relationship between self-confidence, personality, intelligence, bullshit and overclaiming in high stakes and low stakes scenarios. For that, two studies will be carried out, one for the construction of Overclaiming questionnaires and another to identify the relationship between the variables intelligence, personality, social desirability, bullshit and self-confidence with the overclaiming indexes. In the first study, two Overclaiming questionnaires will be built, one for the general context of application and another for the specific context. Three expert judges in psychological assessment will be invited to assess the quality of the instruments. In the second study, 540 university students will participate, who will answer the Overclaiming, BPR-5 and self-confidence, BFI-2, IPIP and Bullshit Receptivity Scale questionnaires. The analysis will be carried out using the latent modeling strategy, in which the relationship between the study variables and overclaiming will be determined and the means of the questionnaires in different scenarios will be compared.
