Abstract

This research project proposes to conceptualize corporate activism (CA) in a comprehensive sense, and to provide a validated scale to measure this construct. To achieve these objectives, an exploratory sequential mixed-method design will be used, following a four-step traditional scale development procedure: (i) content domain and item generation, (ii) item purification, (iii) construct validation and reliability assessment, and (iv) replication. The first step regards to the definition of content domain and item generation, which will be based on a qualitative study that includes a systematic literature review and a set of interviews with different stakeholders (e.g., managers, consumers, activists, specialists), that will be analyzed using content and thematic analysis. The items generated will compose an initial survey items pool, that will be discussed with academic specialists. The following three steps are quantitative and designed to reduce and validate the construct domain and its respective survey items. A series of multivariate statistics, including exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and structural equations modeling (SEM) will be used to analyze survey data. As results, it is expected an introduction of a new, holistic conceptualization of CA and an empirically validated measurement model for CA. Expected products and impacts are outlined in the project.
