Abstract

The French philosopher Henri Lefebvre has an original critique of modern urbanism and architecture. Part of this criticism is related to his research and analysis carried out in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, especially on the French Grands Ensembles built in the 30 glorious years of France's second post-war period. The focus of his analysis turned to the transformations of "everyday life" in modernity and the processes of rationalization and functionalization that affected it. The research intends to discuss this approach from the writings of the author himself and some of his main commentators, such as David Harvey and Lucas Stanek. He also intends to understand the possibilities of architecture in this process, according to his 1973 manuscript, recently discovered and published ("Vers une Architecture de la jouissance").
