Abstract

Canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) is a lethal zoonosis considered high in Brazil, a country that has the highest number of CVL cases in the Americas. It is a disease commonly related to emerging countries and it is estimated that for every infected human there are 200 infected dogs. This is due to the presence of the sandfly Lutzomyia longipalpis, common in tropical regions and which has tropism for organic matter. Among the most used strategies to control visceral leishmaniasis, there is the canine serological survey, with the identification of seropositive dogs and sick dogs, that is, with clinical signs. The objective of this proposal is to promote the seroepidemiological survey to detect the presence of canine visceral leishmaniasis in the focus area, which constitutes the District of Rubião Júnior located and neighborhood in the municipality of Botucatu-SP. The serological survey for CVL will be carried out from the 152 blood samples of dogs belonging to owners who adhered to the seroepidemiological survey of their animals during the 1st Week of Veterinary and Environmental Public Health, which took place in the District of Rubião Júnior, Botucatu-SP, in 2022. Concomitantly, questionnaires were applied to the owners in order to assess the health of the dogs and correlate the results of the serological survey with the risk factors regarding the transmission of the disease.
