Abstract

Open public spaces are leisure, circulation and permanence environments that contribute to the quality of urban life, and constitute, in general, streets, sidewalks, public gardens, parks and squares. However, the quality of these spaces depends on microclimatic conditions favorable to human comfort, so that their use and permanence are guaranteed. In addition, it is important to highlight that vegetation is fundamental in improving the thermal sensation of open environments, promoting shade, controlling radiation and helping to reduce the local temperature, guaranteeing good environmental quality. Therefore, in cities like Presidente Prudente - SP, with a climate characterized by high temperatures and a high level of radiation, it is extremely important that open public spaces have good thermal comfort, providing conditions of well-being for those who frequent them and directly influencing the physical and mental health of the population. That said, and in view of the importance of these spaces, this research aims to analyze the thermal comfort of the visitors of Geography Square, an open public space, located at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT UNESP), in Presidente Prudente - SP , taking into account the influence of existing trees in the area.
