Abstract

The objective of this study is to evaluate the 45S5 mesoporous bioglass functionalized withniobium and carbon fiber in order to obtain a material with potential for synthetic bone grafting.Forty-eight adult male rats (Wistar) will be used, which will undergo a critical size bone defectin tibia, where the 4 groups, C: (blood clot), B: Bioglass 45S5, B+N: Bioglass 45S5 withmesopores functionalized with niobium and B+N+F: Bioglass 45S5 with mesoporesfunctionalized with niobium and carbon fiber; will be randomly distributed, n=6 in each group, the euthanasia periods will be 15 and 60 days. The animals will be euthanized by tripleanesthetic dose followed by decapitation. Histomorphometric and micro CT analyses will beperformed. For each analysis the data will be submitted first to descriptive statistical analysis,to establish the measures of central tendency and variability, then inferential statistics will beperformed by the ANOVA two-factor test. A conventional significance level of 5% will beadopted
