Analysis of climatic precipitation indices for the city of Bauru: a comparison between observations and reanalysis data.

Abstract

The precipitation directly affects the urban and rural daily life of citizens and, when it occurs in an extreme way, it can cause problems such as floods, soil damage and landslides. In recent years, understanding the pattern and causes of these events has become increasingly important, since, in the context of climate change, direct impacts on the population are inevitable. In this context, the focus of the project is to understand how they behaved and why the climatic precipitation extremes defined by the Expert Team on Climate Change Detection and Indices (ETCCDI) occurred in the city of Bauru, in the state of São Paulo. For this purpose, data from available meteorological stations and from the reanalysis will be used. The reanalysis hourly total precipitation data provided by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) will be used: ERA5 and ERALand, with different horizontal resolutions, 31 km and 9 km, respectively. Based on these data, the validation of precipitation climatology will be carried out, as well as the estimation and analysis of the indices in grid point for the city of Bauru/SP. In this case both for the reanalysis and for the station data, will be analyzed the annual an seasonal series for precipitation. A statistical analysis will also be performed for trend analysis of these indices.
