Abstract

The current project seeks to investigate why violence against women became a central theme in fourth wave feminism, that began in 2011. The investigation will aim to debate three hypothesis present in the literature: 1. The former accumulations of the feminist movement allowed new social ties to form between women facing the current capitalism crisis through horizontal identification processes, evidencianting formerly tolerated forms of gender violence; 2. The amplification of feminism in peripheral capitalist countries transformed the movement's claims according to the concrete reality of women in these countries and shifted the center of the debate towards violence; 3. The intolerability of violence against women as an effect of women's individualization in neoliberalism molds. In this sense, a literature revision will be made on the reasons why the fourth wave of feminism happens at this moment and, concurrently, an analysis of texts present in the current feminist movement's websites on violence against women.
