Abstract

The use of ultrasonic vibrations for osteotomy was introduced three decades ago as an alternative to the mechanical and electrical instruments that are used in conventional oral surgery. Piezosurgery can benefit the clinician, allowing precise osteotomies to be performed in a clean field with little bleeding and, above all, without the risk of damaging noble, soft, and nervous tissues. The objective of this work is to evaluate the bone repair of critical defects in the calvaria of rats filled with particulate autogenous bone graft obtained by means of surgical ultrasound. Sixty-four adult male rats (Rattus novergicus albinus, Wistar) will be divided into four groups: Blood Clot Group (GC, 16), Autogenous Group Shaved with Bone Scraper (GAR, 16), Autogenous Group Shaved with Surgical Ultrasound (GAU, 16) and Crushed Autogenous Group (GAT,16). A critical bone defect will be created in the calvaria of each animal and filled with autogenous bone according to each group, or filled with blood clot in the Clot Group. The defects will be covered with a bovine cortical bone membrane. The animals will be euthanized at 30 and 60 days (8 at each time). Histomorphometric, immunohistochemical and microtomographic analyzes will be performed.
