Abstract

Pregnant women's food consumption has followed the temporal trends of the nutritional transition, resulting in a reduction in the overall quality of the diet and in the health conditions of the mother and individuals at the beginning of life. The objective of the present study is to investigate the factors associated with the usual consumption of ultra-processed foods (UPA) among Brazilian and Portuguese pregnant women. Baseline data from a randomized controlled clinical trial conducted among 350 overweight adult pregnant women attended at Basic Health Units in the city of Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brazil, from 2018 to 2021, and data from the National Food and Activity Survey will be used. Physics (IAN-AF) conducted in Portugal, between October 2015 and September 2016. The usual UPF consumption of both populations of pregnant women will be estimated using two 24h RI, based on the NOVA food classification. The Multiple Source Method will be used to estimate the usual AUP consumption. To evaluate the difference in energy percentage consumption (%E) from UPF between Brazilian and Portuguese pregnant women, the Mann-Whitney test or Student's t test will be used, depending on the data distribution. Adjusted linear regression models will be used to investigate the association between maternal characteristics and the %E from UPF in the pregnant women's diet. The significance level will be set at p <0.05. (AU)
