Abstract

The experiments of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are always seeking to improve their measurements motivated by new knowledge acquired over time. One of the most important upgrades of the ALICE experiment is the installation of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) chambers in the TPC (Time Projection Chamber), which is required to allow the measurement of events at the high collision rates predicted for the LHC from 2021 onwards. The aim of this project is to develop simulations of these MPGD (MicroPattern Gaseous Detectors) cameras and detectors in general, using Garfield++ simulation software, which is a program developed by CERN's RD51 collaboration with object-oriented programming, in order to study possible improvements in these detectors.
