Abstract

Quantum gases experiments configure a very flexible platform where all system's parameters can be fully controlled. The possibility of changing the nature (attractive or repulsive) and the strength of the interatomic interactions via Feshbach resonances [1] have open up the possibility to produce unitary and almost ideal atomic gases, and to study specific Hamiltonians and new states of matter, as the recent quantum droplets. Feshbach resonances are tuned by applying a uniform magnetic field to the atomic cloud. In this scientific initiation project, we will produce and stabilize the magnetic field necessary for tunning the Feshbach resonances of potassium-39 atoms by constructing a pair of coils in perfectly Helmholtz configuration, minimizing the residual in-plane confinement crucial for two-dimensional (2D) systems. The magnetic field stabilization will be done with a feedback loop control combining an ultra-stable transducer and a commercial PID (proportional, integral and derivative) circuit.
