Abstract

Introduction: Among the most prevalent multimorbidities with the aging process, chronic heart failure (CHF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) stand out, which are the two main causes of hospital admissions in Brazil. In addition, the prevalence of COPD in patients with CHF is estimated at 20-30% in the USA, however, it is still unclear whether these diseases coexist in our midst, or even if there is a greater negative impact of these on exercise capacity in a follow-up study compared to international data. Objectives: The objective of this study is related to subproject 1 of phase 2 of this thematic project, which aims to evaluate the cardiorespiratory and metabolic determinants in CHF, COPD and the coexistence of these diseases in maximum exercise, as well as their implications in indicesforecasts, contrasting the FRIENDs database with national data.Subjects and methods: The databases of the national bank of the present laboratory will be studied, which will contrast 3 groups of patients (CHF, COPD and mixed patients) with patients selected from the FRIENDs database, which consists of a database of exercise tests US cardiopulmonary. From these data, the profile of patients from both countries will be analyzed, as well as the TCP parameters. The following TCP variables will be included in the Cox regression model: VO2 peak, VE/VCO2 slope, VO, PV and PC. Cox univariate regression analysis will beused to assess prognostic ability in subgroups. Kaplan-Meier analysis will be applied to verify differences in survival between subgroups.Study hypothesis: We hypothesize that the functional impact of patients from the national database, based on the profile of patients (greater severity, low medication adherence and impaired health care), may present worse functional capacity, with a consequent unfavorable prognosis in relation to the data international.
