Abstract

Most geoparks are located in areas partially or fully exposed to natural hazards and extreme weather phenomena. As verified in research carried out with managers of UNESCO geoparks (Global Geoparks Network - GGN), among the most recurrent processes in these territories and that can represent risk situations, are the mass movements, present in 70% of the geoparks. The creation and recognition of the Caminho dos Cânions do Sul Geopark - GCCS as a member of the GGN stimulated geotourism in the region and, consequently, led to a significant increase in infrastructure (constructions). Records of past events of large-scale mass movements and the increase in geotourism reinforce the need to develop preventive plans to reduce risks and disasters in this territory. Therefore, in order to assess risk, that is, the possibility of adverse consequences arising from a specific event, it is imperative to carry out susceptibility, danger and vulnerability analyses. Thus, this project aims to determine, from bivariate statistics, the susceptibility to shallow landslides in the territory of the GCCS and to investigate the vulnerability of buildings from heuristic methods in two time frames. The main expected results are the determination of areas susceptible to shallow landslides and the temporal analysis of vulnerability, which can contribute to territorial planning and the understanding of the relationship between regional growth and physical vulnerability in the GCCS. This project will be developed in collaboration with the Caminho dos Cânions do Sul Intermunicipal Consortium and the University of Estado de Santa Catarina.
