Abstract

Postoperative Pancreatic Fistula is one of the most alarming complications after a pancreas procedure, such as a distal pancreatectomy (frequently performed on oncological patients). This condition increases morbidity and mortality in individuals who already had their quality of life affected before being subjected to surgery. Postoperative pancreatic fistula development can boost the chance of intra-abdominal abscess and hemorrhage occurrence, both worrisome postoperative outcomes. Literature lacks a recent systematic review comparing efficacy of staplers and hand-sewn sutures for stump closure to prevent fistula formation after distal pancreatectomy. The objective of the present study is to update the literature with a new systematic review, including recent articles on the theme.
