Abstract

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is the third leading cause of death worldwide. When the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is initiated as fast and effectively performed, without interruptions until the arrival of the automatic external defibrillator or the emergence medical service, the survival rate and better neurological outcomes increases three-fold. CPR training can be performed in small, medium and bigger groups (50-150 learners/hour). However, up to date no studies have been performed to assess the high-quality of CPR training in big groups (good and/or very good). This cross-sectional study for assessing CPR quality in big groups trainings aims: (1) to evaluate the quality of chest compression by means of a checklist (using Likert scale of five options) for three skills: (a) chest compression rate of 100-120 cpm; (b) compression depth between 5-6 cm; and (c) chest release after compression; (2) to describe which students can perform high-quality CPR; and (3) to describe which students have difficulties in perform high-quality CPR and which skills are low-quality ones (regular, unsatisfactory and/or no acquisiton). We will include students of both sexes, aged between 10 and 25 years, without any previous CPR training and participants of KIDS SAVE LIVES BRAZIL trainings in bigger groups in a short period of time (total time of 4 hours in the same day). We will exclude students with cognitive and/or physical incapacity to understand and/or perform CPR. This study intends to contribute to improve quality due to CPR trainings in bigger groups as well as to the outcomes in this out-of-hospital emergency occurence.
