Abstract

One of the main causes of the degradation of ecosystem services is the change in land use and cover, mainly due to the conversion of natural ecosystems to agriculture or pastures, as is the case of the Atlantic Forest. It is important to conserve existing native vegetation in the biome and restore to increase forest cover and landscape connectivity, thereby generating benefits for both biodiversity and human well-being through the provision of ecosystem services. To this end, the implementation of payment programs for ecosystem services can be an important tool to protect these services, and understanding their environmental and socioeconomic benefits is essential for their success. In this sense, the main objective of this proposal is to model PSE implementation scenarios and assess the environmental and socioeconomic impacts by comparing them with a counterfactual scenario. The results will provide important information for planning the implementation of PSE programs in the state of São Paulo
