Abstract

Brazil is a global reference in the transition to renewable energy sources, mainly due to the predominant use of hydroelectric power and the advancements made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adopting public policies to promote a fair, accessible, and inclusive energy transition. While there are significant disparities in the energy matrix across Latin America, the region possesses one of the cleanest sources of energy in the world, with approximately 30% coming from hydroelectric sources. However, it is important to examine the energy transition in Brazil and Latin America while considering existing socio-economic and structural inequalities, in order to ensure that no one is left behind during this process. To achieve this, the proposal involves conducting interdependent and comprehensive activities, seminars, and studies, with a developmental perspective that encompasses various spheres - technological, environmental, economic, political, and social - to investigate and project scenarios of the impact of the energy transition on the socio-economic development of Brazil and Latin America.
