Abstract

The heat exchanger performance and the vibration occurrence in rod bundles issignificantly influenced by fluid dynamics and turbulence parameters. Understanding theflow characteristics, especially in the presence of spacer grids and secondary flows, iscrucial for comprehending the underlying phenomena. In this proposal, the goal is toemploy the Spatial Filter Velocimetry technique with two and three velocity componentsto analyze the axial flow velocity fields in rod bundles. The primary objective is toimplement this technique and analyze the velocity field with all three velocitycomponents in a single-cylinder internal flow. Then, it will be implementing thetechnique of variable mesh for suitable interrogation areas based on the velocity gradient. This technique will be automatized through artificial intelligence tools. Theimplementation of automation for the definition of the interrogation zone will be extendedto the three-dimensional analysis. The study will cover both single-phase and dispersedbubble flows, focusing on obtaining and applying three-dimensional analysis of theimages captured in the test section at EESC-USP. Moreover, this proposal aims to providea comprehensive learning experience for the candidate by performing a postdoctoralinternship in an internationally recognized research group. In summary, this opportunitywill contribute to the studies under development at EESC-USP which focus is obtainingvelocity fields, contributing to the candidate's formation as a researcher, and supportingthe candidate to establish an international research network.
