Abstract

The characteristics of geographic space influence access to health services. In the state of São Paulo, highly complex cancer care is highly heterogeneous, considering the distribution of hospitals and treatment modalities offered in the 17 health regions of the state, resulting in intense intrastate migration of cancer patients. Among the hospitals qualified to provide high-complexity care in oncology and providers of the Unified Health System, 73 units are classified as High Complexity Care Units in Oncology (UNACON) or Specialized Care Centers in Oncology (CACON). UNACONs provide diagnosis and treatment services for the most common types of cancer and represent most of the accredited hospitals. CACONs provide care for all cancer types and provide high complexity services. Both categories must maintain a hospital cancer registry (RHC) in operation, registering the cases of cancer treated. This data is sent to the Fundação Oncocentro de São Paulo (FOSP), which coordinate the RHCs in the state of São Paulo. The FOSP evaluate data consistency, as well as consolidate and integrate the data. In this context, the present postdoctoral research proposal will use consolidated data from the RHC/SP to understand the characteristics of cancer care and the migratory flow of cancer patients. This database will also verify changes resulting from the implementation of the regulation system in oncology between 2013 and 2016, from which a single regulation center became decisive in the flow of diagnosis of suspected cases and treatment of confirmed cases of cancer. The research proposal will involve the description of oncological care and obtain measures of migratory flow, in which the candidate will develop activities related to subproject 4 of Axis 2: Patterns of cancer care and migratory flow of cancer patients in the state of Sao Paulo.
