Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the purposes and applications of external loans borrowed by the government of São Paulo between 1888 and 1930 to reflect the economic development. The investigation will be carried out in the light of the discussions on Latin American economic development that permeate the contributions from the 60s and 70s to the present. Thus, it is pertinent to answer a question: what is the relationship between the external loans contracted by the State of São Paulo and the process of economic development? To this end, in the procedure of construction of the dissertation, the collection of the Library of the Public Archive of the State of São Paulo (APESP) will be resorted to.
