Abstract

The construction of successful school trajectories in popular environments is an important object of study in national and international scientific literature today. One aspect present in several studies on the subject is the fact that it is understood from a viewpoint that focuses on the rupture or cultural shock resulting from the difference between the school world and the family world, and the suffering resulting from such difference. However, some studies, such as those conducted by the French researcher Jean-Yves Rochex, have been discussing this understanding and indicating other possibilities of relationship between school and family socializations, as well as raising the need to investigate the experience between different socializing contexts by the same individual. For this, the author believes that a greater dialogue between the areas of Sociology and Psychology is necessary. Thus, based on the discussion undertaken by Rochex and the investigative needs raised by him, the present project aims to analyze the relationships between school and family in the trajectory of students from low-income families in atypical school success situations. More specifically, we will try to investigate how adults from low-income backgrounds who took highly prestigious college courses lived the relationship with their families regarding their school experience. To achieve this goal, we will conduct in-depth interviews with 11 former students who took highly selective undergraduate courses at the University of São Paulo and who participated in previous research developed by the proponent of this project. At the time of the research, the students had ages ranging between 19 and 33 years old, so in the present proposal, the participants will be between 32 and 50 years old. (AU)
