Abstract

Conducting prospective studies that assess the occurrence of complications related to anesthesia is infrequent, especially in the national scenario. This statement gains even more support when specified in relation to small animal anesthesia. In a global scenario, the literature brings relevant information about the brutal difference between the incidence of intraoperative anesthetic complications in humans and dogs, in which this is significantly higher in anesthetic procedures in small animals. Although scientific and technological advances over the years in the area of anesthesiology are very evident, the problem persists significantly. In this way, the anesthetic records of dogs submitted to different general anesthesia protocols will be evaluated in the Anesthesia Service of the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics of the University of São Paulo (FMVZ-USP) from August 2023 to July de 2024. The main objective is to determine the incidence of anesthesia-related complications and correlate them with the protocol and anesthetic agents used throughout the anesthetic procedure to determine the morbidity and mortality of each protocol, dividing them into different groups according to the ASA classification .
