Abstract

The objective of this project is to analyze the constitutionalization of the right to water (CRW), recognized as a fundamental right by the UN only in 2010. This objective will be achieved through (1) mapping the occurrence of CRW throughout history, based on empirical data from two databases (Constitute and Constitutions Analysis Portal), (2) analyzing the evolution of the debate on CRW by selecting cases from different historical periods, and (3) contextualizing CRW in comparison to other human rights that have been constitutionalized for much longer. The results of this project will serve as a basis for the inclusion of the right to water in the CSSM database.
