Sensory processing patterns in children aged 6 to 11 years

Abstract

Aim: To characterize the sensory processing patterns of children aged 6 to 11 years enrolled in public and private schools in São Carlos-SP. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. 148 children will participate, divided into two groups: 1) experimental group, composed of children with atypical sensory processing patterns, and 2) control group, composed of children with typical sensory processing patterns. This study was approved by the State Department of Education, the Municipal Department of Education, and the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), in accordance with the Guidelines and Regulatory Norms for Research Involving Human Beings (Resolution 466/2012, National Health Council). For the authorization of the responsible persons regarding the participation of their children in the study, the Informed Consent Form (ICF) will be used, as well as the children who accept voluntary participation will sign the Informed Consent Form. Public and private schools in the city of São Carlos - SP will be invited to participate in the research. In the schools that agree to participate in the study, the ICF will be sent to the responsible persons, and the Short Sensory Profile 2 and Sociodemographic Questionnaire. All eligible children will be invited to participate through the signing of the ICF. The children who accept will be evaluated through the MABC-2. Expected results: It is expected that there will be a variety of sensory processing patterns among the groups; and that there is a relationship between the presence of atypical sensory processing and low motor performance.
