Abstract

The Zionist colonization in Palestine that started at the end of the 19th century caused the displacement of thousands of Palestinian families all over the world. However, seven decades after the Nakba, the Palestinian people's bond and memory for their land could not be erased. This research project aims to understand how Palestinian artists from the city of São Paulo build the memory of their land through musical practices. Sound performances, the playing of instruments, recited poetry and sung songs are profoundly eloquent if listened to in detail. The purpose is to understand how these artistic practices attribute meaning to the experience of permanent exile, experienced since birth by those Palestinians born outside their homeland.
