Abstract

Medications derived from plants used in traditional medicine represent an important source of new therapeutic agents for numerous diseases. Handroanthus impetiginosus (Mart. ex DC.) Mattos (Bignoniaceae Juss Family), commonly known as pau-d'arco, possesses immense biological potential and has a historical track record in medicine for treating skin cancer and autoimmune diseases. However, despite these attributes, studies focused on standardization with the qualitative and quantitative characterization of their main metabolites, as well as the validation of their biological activity, bioavailability and toxicity are relatively scarce. In this context, this project seeks to provide the scientific initiation student with expertise in 2D and 3D cell culture techniques, focusing on evaluating the immune responses elicited by cell cultures exposed to pau-d'arco extracts.
