Abstract

This research aims to study the nature and role of São Paulo's industry from 1870 to 1970. It aims to investigate its real importance in the economy of the city through that period, as well as its influences on its urban transformations. It also aims to geospatialize them in order to characterize its initial geography and the displacements that move them from the central perimeter to the suburbs. The proposal is to obtain an overview of São Paulo's industry, since its first examples, still with the character of small factories and manufactures, to the first major expansion in the 70's, mapping its location, its development and its dimension, regarding the economy, the everyday social life and the urban landscape of São Paulo, thus contributing to the common efforts of the team of the thematic project Experiência Arquigrafia 4.0.
