Abstract

Recently researchers demonstrate a wide variety of genotypes worldwide especially in South American countries including Brazil and Argentina. The presence of non clonal lineages with high probability of virulent behavior emphasizes the importance of studying this parasitosis in our region. The most used technique for genotyping is multilocus nested polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism (nPCR-RFLP), additionally mouse model and in vitro studies should develop to research virulence. For these reasons it is important to know how to isolate, maintain, and genotype T. gondii in our region (South America) to increase the knowledge about this parasite which could affect indistinctly human and warm domestic and wild animals.
