Abstract

Autopsy is a medical procedure that involves the dissection of a corpse to examine its internal structures and determine the cause of death or identify diseases and injuries that may have contributed to the death. Lower respiratory tract infection is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. The term pneumonia can be used to define any lung infection. The spectrum of histological changes in pneumonia can vary from fibrinopurulent alveolar exudation, observed in acute bacterial pneumonia, to mononuclear interstitial infiltrates in viral and atypical pneumonia.
