Abstract

The project of the IC fellows addresses a challenge problem in experimental condensed matterphysics: The construction of a miniaturized susceptometer for magnetic measurements in extremeconditions, mainly in samples at very low temperatures, high pressures and magnetic fields, inside cryogenic dry systems. The construction of the miniaturized susceptometer will be supported by the FAPESP YoungResearcher project (process 2018/08845-3) and supervised by Prof. Julio Larrea who is also currently leader of the Laboratory for Quantum Matter under Extreme Conditions (LQMEC) in the Department of Experimental Physics (FEP). Besides, this work involves international collaboration with the group of Prof. Henry Ronnow from the Laboratory for Quantum Magnetism at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (LQM-EPFL).We expect that the IC student involves in the construction of the miniaturized coils using theLQMEC infrastructure, hosted at the Institute of Physics of the University of São Paulo (IFUSP). Inparticular, the miniaturized coils will make feasible magnetization measurements of materials with resolution that commercial systems have limitations, and even more fancy operating into a new dry cryostat infrastructure and high pressure cells, at least up to 30 kbar and external magnetic fields. As a result, we hope that the IC student will also be involved in experiments of magnetic propertiesunder extreme conditions in order to investigate collective quantum phenomena in systems withfrustrated magnetism, acquiring an international experience through a BEPE internship with scientific staff in LQM-EPFL.
