Abstract

Introduction: About 16% of musculoskeletal complaints are related to shoulder pain. Some biological aspects have been demonstrated as valid characteristics to predict thefunctionality and prognosis of people with shoulder pain. Other psychological aspects such asfear, anxiety and catastrophizing also seem to be related to the persistence of symptoms.Despite the literature discussing the presence of different pain profiles, it is still unclear which factors biopsychosocial factors are capable of explaining pro- and anti-nociceptive shoulder pain phenotypes. Objectives: Descriptively explore the presence of pro- and anti-nociceptive profiles in a sampleof people with shoulder pain and to identify biopsychosocial factors involved in each phenotype of pain in the shoulder. Methods: The sample will be non-probabilistic of consecutive and convenience cases. will be included 42 individuals between 18 and 60 years old with shoulder pain. Sociodemographic aspects will be collected, biological factors related to clinical status and sensory, psychosocial and functional function. Fordescriptively explore the presence of types of nociceptive profile (anti-nociceptive or pro-nociceptive), individuals will be categorized according to the obtained pain modulation profilewith pain temporal summation tests (normal or facilitated) or pain modulation testsconditioned (normal or impaired). Descriptive analyzes will be performed for all data(sociodemographic, biological, psychosocial and functional) of individuals with pain in the shoulder and in each pain modulation profile group. Differences between groups regarding the two profiles ofpain modulation will be analyzed using the appropriate statistical test for data distribution (Mann Whitney or independent samples t test).Expected Results: Individuals with a pro-nociceptive pain profile are expected to demonstrate evident negative psychological aspects, widespread pain and sensory changes local and distant from the complaint, while individuals with antinociceptive pain profile demonstrate the more evident presence of biological aspects related to the clinical condition of shoulder pain.
