Abstract

We propose to measure and characterize the spectral energy distribution (SED) ofNGC 253 at the scale of individual giant molecular clouds (GMCs; see, e.g., Leroy et al. 2015) taking advantage of existing and upcoming rich multiwavelength datasets covering radio/sub-mm (e.g. VLA, ALMA), optical (currently being procured with S-PLUS), and the IR (from scheduled JWST observations and archival Herschel/PACS observations, and also material donated by Fernandez-Ontiveros, see Fernandez-Ontiveros et al. (2009), which consists of data from the VLT (NACO and VISIR) and the Hubble Space Telescope). These datasets provide a comprehensive view of both unobscured (i.e. via UV/optical) and dust-obscured light (i.e. via radio synchrotron and free-free emission; e.g., Condon 1992) from young massive stars, as well as emission from older stars that account for the bulk of the stellar mass (i.e. near-IR). The mid- and far-IR/sub-mm regime also provides valuable information on the properties of the dust and gas that are reprocessing the stellar emission.
