Abstract

During this one-year research internship, our aim is to delve deeper into the study of collective effects of the light-matter interaction within a cold atomic sample. We will develop theoretical tools to investigate a specific experimental configuration implemented in one of the experiments in the Cold Atoms research group at the Institut de Physique de Nice. The goal is to investigate the results already obtained on the experiment and not fully understood, as well as to make predictions to guide the future of this experiment. Our study focuses on photon-photon correlations, which provide information on the light coherence, and possibly on its quantum nature. Due to the large optical thickness of the atomic clouds in Nice, collective effects due to dipole-dipole interactions arise, which we aim to characterize.
