Abstract

Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) are porous materials, usually crystalline, constructed by coordination bonds between metal ions or clusters and multitopic organic ligands. This class of materials has shown great promise in various areas such as gas storage and separation, heterogeneous catalysis, drug delivery systems, photonics, among others. Although crystalline MOFs have exceptional properties, a number of issues involving industrial feasibility still remain in this group of materials, such as the difficulty in processing or molding mechanically microcrystalline MOF powders on a large scale. Thus, an alternative to these challenges is the study of glassy MOFs, an emerging and still little studied topic in the field of this class of materials.There is no record in the literature of studies of glassy MOFs containing lanthanide ions. The lanthanide-based materials that have been studied within the scope of the thematic project to which this proposal is linked. Energy transfer processes leading to different light emission processes, namely, downconversion, upconversion and downshifting will be studied in these new matrices with potential for various applications. Several characterization techniques should be used such as XRD, SAXS, IR, NMR, Porosity Analysis, Thermal Analysis (TG and DSC and microcalorimetry), SEM-EDS and luminescence spectroscopy
