Abstract

In the last decades, the volume and complexity of astronomical data have increased considerably. As a consequence, machine learning techniques are being more frequently used in the analysis of such data. In this project, we propose to evaluate the most efficient machine learning techniques (and also the most adequate parameters) to classify the nuclear emission of galaxies as characteristic of Seyfert galaxies, Low Ionization Nuclear Emission-Line Regions (LINERs) or H II regions, using photometric data obtained with the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey (S-PLUS). We will also evaluate the possibility of applying this methodology to future photometric data to be obtained with the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST).
