Abstract

IAG-USP is part of the Brazilian-Spanish collaboration JPAS (Javalambre Physics of the Accelerating Universe Astrophysical Survey), a photometric sky survey of 8000 square degrees of the sky done in 59 filters. The designs of the J-PAS camera and filter system allow mapping not only the positions and colors of hundreds of millions of galaxies in the sky, but to study their clustering properties and stellar populations. CEFCA (Spain) is the headquarters of JPAS and it is the center we chose for this BEPE. The purpose of the project here described is to develop three studies within one month. The first one is the continuation of the project that the student already execute in Brazil, which is creating models of galaxies using a routine called MegaMorph applied to multi-wavelength images. In particular the student will acquire skills in searching data in the JPLUS archive, create galaxy stamps, local background and PSF. The actual fitting can be done when she is back in Brazil. The second subject would be to learn techniques that have been developed at CEFCA to study the cluster population of nearby galaxies, as M33. Once back to Brazil, the student will apply the acquired knowledge to SPLUS data (SMC and LMC). Finally, the last project involves the study of known PNe in M33 to study the Hapha/OIII fluxes. Results of this work will increase our ability of detecting PNe in other nearby galaxies, including the Milky Way. In conclusion, the visit of M.L. Gomes Buzzo to CEFCA will not only strengthen the collaboration between her host institute (IAG) and JPAS headquarter (CEFCA), but also greatly contribute to the development of projects related to J-PAS, J-PLUS and S-PLUS in Brazil.
