Abstract

The Food Guide for the Brazilian Population (FGBP) launched in 2014 by the Ministry of Health. FGBP is an official document that provides important recommendations for adequate and healthy eating, from a nutritional, social, cultural, environmental, and economic aspects. Despite its importance and relevance, there is no appropriate instrument to assess the adequacy of the Brazilian population's diet to its recommendations. In this sense, this project aims to develop and validate the Brazilian Food Quality Index (BFQI-Nova), in accordance with the dietary recommendations expressed in the FGBP. A survey of the food groups that will make up the index will be carried out from chapters two and three of the FGBP. To establish the minimum and maximum values recommended for each component or food groups, data from the indexed scientific literature, recommendations from official documents will be used, as well as analyzes of the usual consumption of a representative sample of the Brazilian population. For face and content validation expert panel methodology will be used. As for the validation processes regarding the construct, reliability, internal consistency, and discriminant data from the Nutrinet Brazil cohort will be used, and relevant statistical techniques will be applied. In the last validation step, the criterion validity, analyzes of association between the index score and indicators of the nutritional quality of the diet and weight gain and obesity will be performed. It is expected that the index has a satisfactory performance to assess the diet quality according to current recommendations and can be used in epidemiological studies and in food and nutrition surveillance actions.
