Abstract

This Scientific Initiation research project proposes to elaborate investigations on Clarice Lispector's novels A paixão segundo G.H. (1964) and Uma aprendizagem ou o livro dos prazeres (1969). The theme of this research are the characters' trajectories as they search for self-recognition, a concept which appears in Georg Lukács' The theory of the novel (2009). According to this perspective, the research focuses on references to water, which appear recurrently in these two novels. It is relevant to understand how these references, which can be found in important moments in the narratives, contribute to the characters' trajectories.Following this approach, it is necessary to analyze how the lead characters change their perceptions of the world and of their bodies in face of these water-related images, as they go through their searches for self-recognition. It is also important to compare the two narratives to establish what they have in common.
