Abstract

The overall incidence of hospitalization for Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) is high and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Thrombotic complications, including venous, arterial, and possibly microvascular, occur in patients hospitalized for various CAP etiologies. Adverse outcomes of patients with pneumonia can be mediated by inflammatory and thrombotic processes, which lead to respiratory, cardiac and other organ dysfunction. This study intends to evaluate the association between raise in serum troponin levels and its use as prognosis biomarker for cardiovascular events in pneumonic processes, paving the way for better understanding of myocardial injury associated with bacterial pneumonia.
