Abstract

Obtaining eco-efficient cementitious materials with improved properties has been intensely studied using low-dimensional additives . In this context, these additives aims to enhance the mechanical-structural properties of the cementitious material, promoting greater sustainability by reducing the harmful to the environment (reduced water use and increased durability of structures) and low cost. This proposal proposes the development of additives for cement paste (Portland), and these activities are divided into three parts. The first one consists of evaluating the effects of surface area and concentration of additives for composites containing Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH), on the rheological properties and performing mechanical tests to demonstrate the efficiency of additives in improving the mechanical strength of the cementitious material. In the second stage, TiO2 nanoparticles and nanofibers will be incorporated into the system (commercial cement and cement containing LDH) to confer multifunctional properties through changes in the rheological properties of the paste, increased mechanical strength and the ability to inhibit the adhesion of dirt and to promote the degradation of species harmful to health. In the third stage, pectins with different molecular weights will be incorporated in order to accelerate the hydration kinetics of the paste and the homogenization of the additives in the composites previously produced. Such studies, as well as the optimization of additive synthesis properties will allow directing and adapting the methods for batch scheduling.
