Abstract

Process-based agricultural models are important tools that can simulate plant growth, synthesizing physiological processes through input data, where it is possible to simulate genetic improvement through plant responses, in addition to the edaphoclimatic and management characteristics of the studied plant. The objective of this project will be to calibrate the CROPGRO-Perennial Forage/DSSAT model for tall fescue (Lolium arundinaceum (Schreb.) Darbysh.). The biometrics and morphological composition of tall fescue have already been collected in other experiments and will be used to understand the partitioning and to calibrate the CROPGRO-Perennial Forage (CROPGRO-PF)/DSSAT model, the first objective of this study. The calibration will then allow more accurate results on the dry matter accumulation and partitioning of tall fescue (Lolium arundinaceum (Schreb.) Darbysh.) with tall fescue data from Tennessee and Kansas. With a calibrated model, the second objective is to evaluate the influence of the El Niño Southern Oscillation phenomenon (ENSO) and its phases, El Niño (EL), La Ninã (LN), and neutral (N) on the forage accumulation of this grass.
