Abstract

Despite the large production of research developed in Brazil that seeks to understand the dynamics of mass movements and identify susceptible areas to this processes, studies about danger, vulnerability and risk, mainly on a regional scale, are still incipient. Furthermore, the literature points to the scarcity of data on vulnerability as the main barrier to risk assessment. On the other hand, Portugal has a vast production in risk analysis and assessment, including studies on susceptibility and physical vulnerability and social using a wide variety of methods. In order to fill the gaps referring to the methods used on a regional scale to study mass movements in Brazil, this research project aims to evaluate the applicability of methods office and field techniques to evaluate the criteria used in the study of susceptibility and physical vulnerability in Portugal. In this context, the following steps: i) Field work in areas susceptible to mass movements and assessment of affected buildings and; ii) Validation of the susceptibility model and assessment of applicability of methods for determining physical vulnerability in Brazil. The internship at abroad will contribute to the exchange of knowledge and advances in the techniques used in Brazil, especially for the analysis of vulnerability, which will allow, based on temporal studied in research developed in Brazil, identify the relationship between regional growth and physical vulnerability, in addition to contributing to the territorial planning of the Geopark Caminhos dos Cânions do Sul.
